Ian had a small guest room that he needed to fit a double bed in and still have lots of storage. His freestanding wardrobes didn't maximise the storage opportunism with the high ceilings so he approached Sharps for help.

Ian and his young family moved into their smart four-bedroom property in 1999 and some 16 years on, they are now in the middle of a complete redecoration project. With Jake, one of their sons now away at uni, they took the opportunity to completely overhaul his room!

As Jake only comes home occasionally, they said it was important to ensure the room was not only suitable for him, but could also double up as a guest bedroom for the many family and friends they have visiting. They therefore wanted something quite grown-up and classy. Having had a wardrobe installed by Sharps in their master bedroom way back in 2003, and it still looking as good today as it did when it was installed, the couple didn’t hesitate in getting in touch again.

The solution

The room is quite small in size, so there was not much the designer could recommend in terms of changing the existing layout. But, in order to fully maximise all available space, he did recommend installing fitted wardrobes with top boxes - ideal to keep folders and books in when Jake is back from uni.

The wardrobes have plenty of single and double hanging space, shelving to keep all of Jake’s hats, joggers and hoodies neat and tidy. Plus, we added three spotlights above the wardrobes, which look really modern and add extra light sources to the room. A large low line six-drawer chest was also installed, providing much additional storage space.

  • Three door wardrobe installed
  • Top boxes were included to maximise space and ceiling height
  • Lots of shelving, double and single hanging and low line chest of drawers for storage

Jake has so many shoes and clothes, we needed lots of storage for them. Like most students, he brings his washing home, so we also needed a place for all of his clean laundry - we no longer wanted to walk into the room and find a floordrobe!

Ian Bennet

How we did it

Ian's designer helped the couple choose Cosmopolitan wardrobes and low line furniture in white gloss with a dark walnut frame. The contemporary white gloss helped to reflect light around the small room and the wood finish of the frame added a traditional element, which together complemented the period style property - "We’re delighted with the finished result. We had a fantastic fitter and were really impressed by his workmanship."

  • Cosmopolitan range in white gloss and a dark walnut frame
  • Matching low line furniture
  • Three stylish and practical spotlights were installed
  • White gloss finish to reflect light around the small space

Here’s a list of the finishing touches and suppliers the Bennetts utilised to complete the look:

  • Handles: Sharps, Slim Chrome
  • Walls: Dulux Moonshimmer
  • Carpet: John Lewis, Nickel
