BECOMING BEAUTIFULLY ORGANISED IN A PERIOD HOME

In a beautiful traditional 1846 home located in Newcastle, Rebecca and Craig were beginning their renovation journey; however, they were confronted with a number of awkward spaces they were struggling to maximise for storage.

With the help from Sharps, we were able to create beautiful bespoke wardrobes in their stunning bedroom that came with a cosy fireplace, wooden beams and some awkward angles to consider. As well as this, the couple included a coordinating set of drawers that was the perfect finishing touch.

The charming furniture was meticulously crafted to provide extra storage space for Rebecca and Craig and the utilisation of our Sharps Space+ formula enabled them to be beautifully organised.

Rebecca's Design Expert Says:

“Rebecca and Craig’s home was effortlessly beautiful. Although there were some awkward angles, high ceilings and a fireplace to work around, the overall process was smooth and efficient and the final result was immaculate.

We created two sets of wardrobes, on either side of the fireplace, that slotted perfectly under the wooden beams - ultimately creating a traditional and modern-Victorian aesthetic. The Hampton range was the perfect choice for the design of the room and gave it a timeless and classy look.

Rebecca chose a coordinating set of drawers for added storage which fit nicely next to the bay window. The Isla handles were the perfect addition to the Hampton range and emphasised the classic charm of the furniture and bedroom.”

Q&A Steph Says:

How did you come to choose Sharps for your wardrobes?

We initially googled fitted wardrobe companies, after selecting a few we then looked on social media as this is a great way to see customer feedback, looks etc. After doing some due diligence we decided on Sharps and arrange a visit.

Why did you decide to get fitted wardrobes in your home?

We had just finished the renovation of the bedroom and wanted to maximise the space of the room but wanted a period-style wardrobe that was professionally fitted to compliment the high-quality finish of the room.

Were there any awkward spaces that you needed to fit around?

Lots of awkward space, our home was built in 1846 so the walls and flooring are far from level. This was one of the reasons why we wanted fitted wardrobes. Also, they need to be fitted around the original chimney breast and fireplace, again this is far from level. I can honestly say the fitting and craftsmanship from the fitter was exceptional and it maximises the effect of the fireplace.

How was your design appointment?

Very professional, straightforward forward and absolutely no pressure whatsoever to commit – overall an enjoyable process. The initial appointment was that good we didn’t even progress with the 2nd company we had booked to visit. The initial hand-drawn plans were fantastic and we really got a good feel for how the room would look…also, the room wasn’t quite finished being renovated so it was great to see what the end goal could look like.

How was the fitting and the rest of the process?

Considering we were in the height of a global pandemic the process was extremely straightforward, professional and pretty much delay-free. The delivery team brought the materials in, and the fitter arrived a few days later. We were extremely impressed with the fitter, he was a perfectionist and extremely skilled, we didn’t realise the entire wardrobes would be hand built from scratch, it truly is a tailored fitment. The fitter is a true credit to Sharps, he asked us several times how we would like a certain area to be finished. He was working on an awkward area around the fireplace and explained how he could shape the wood to follow the contour and if we would like that and we said ‘yes’ and it looks fantastic.

Why did you choose Hampton in Graphite?

We choose the Hampton range as it looks very period to the property and the renovation work we have done. We wanted the room to look ‘modern-Victorian’ in keeping with the era of the property and the graphite colour also ties into the colour scheme which contrasts the colours of our en-suite and cast radiators. Also the finish and colour look amazing next to the exposed fireplace and original brickwork. We choose the Chrome finish Isla handles, this also ties into the chrome finish of our en-suite and fixtures in the room.

What interiors did you choose for your wardrobes?

We needed lots of hanging space so we have plenty of rails, and one section is shelved to store handbags, footwear and a section for long dresses which looks great. Overall we are extremely impressed and delighted we choose Sharps and will 100% be using your services again for other room projects.
