3 easy steps to Turn your bedroom into a luxury hotel room

A night away in a luxury hotel is a treat now and again. But imagine turning your bedroom into a hotel-style room so you can enjoy that luxurious feeling every day and night.

Step 1: Make your bed into a feature of comfort, style and function

When you think hotel room you think amazing bed, right? But it’s also everything that goes around it that makes it hotel-worthy as well.

Headboard

Position your bed just right

The position of the bed in the room is as much about feng-shui as it is to make the best use of the space. Often when the bed is the focal point, it’s usually the best place to start when figuring out how furniture can flow effortlessly around the room.

Feng-shui tells us to always place the head of your bed against a solid wall, which is also great for incorporating a headboard too. And to also create a feeling of safety and security, position the bed so that you can comfortably see the door and window when lying down.

Also think about this point when positioning a vanity or workspace area, making sure there’s lots of natural light and space around these for plenty of wardrobes and drawers.

Combine the comfortable and functional

An extra thick mattress, cloud-like pillows and high thread count sheets all go into creating that unique hotel-level of comfort.

Quite often the addition of a plush fabric headboard adds another layer of luxurious comfort and style. The size, shape, colour and fabric all play an important role in complementing and coordinating with the rest of the room.

Around the bed area, comfort also comes in the form of having perfectly sized bedside tables with storage for your bits and bobs. Add to this spotlights or lamps that are perfectly positioned, stylish and functional for reading or just setting the mood for bedtime.

Step 2: Create a multifunctional bedroom

Think convenience

Hotel rooms are very good at making everything convenient and easy to live in. Everything is always where you need it when you need it. They do this by designing the space with multifunctional features, giving you everything you need in one room.

Storage for everything

Clever storage is everywhere in a hotel room, ensuring every millimetre of space is maximised.

You’ll find bespoke fitted wardrobes that work with the contours of the room, a desk or workspace that doubles as a vanity and a casual seating area or window seat with storage underneath.

All of these storage solutions give a home to bulky items such as extra towels, bedding, pillows and blankets. Also, especially around the vanity area, there’s shelving for fragrances and drawers for everyday items like a hairdryer, makeup and accessories.

Wow-factor features

We all have our devices to charge, and you’ll always find a socket and cable tidy to do that in a hotel room. You can build tech features into your room and furniture to make every day easier too. Like incorporating power stations with plug sockets and USB ports and wireless charging.

Talking of tech, there’s always space for a TV too, usually mounted to the wall in the best position, and often surrounded by units, with shelving or above a sideboard.

For an extra wow factor, why not add a mini bar into your bedroom or even the guest bedroom to give them the luxury hotel experience? It’s easy to create a minibar-style area in your room. Reeded glass-fronted cabinets create beautiful display and storage areas for bottles and glasses (there can even be room for a mini fridge too.) Internal lighting also creates stunning silhouettes of the bottles and glasses.

Step 3: Style your bedroom with hotel-inspired decor

Mirrors

Large mirrors instantly create a luxury hotel room look and feel. A great way to achieve this is to choose full-length mirrored sliding doors on wardrobes. Sliding doors are not only perfect for making the most of small spaces, but with mirrors, they create the illusion of more space and bounce light around the room. And of course, they’re perfect for those daily outfit pics too.

Colour

Colour and wallpaper can be key to keeping the room feeling cohesive. When you look at hotel styles, something they all have in common is brilliant colour coordination and an inspired combination of materials and textures.

To achieve this in your room a great place to start is to choose a single colour or design as your base. From here you can select your direction.

You could go monochromatic, combining shades of the same colour across walls and furniture. Or you could use it to create a feature wall and then pepper accents of the colour around the room with complementary accessories and furnishings.

Don’t forget to think about textures that can complement your colour choices too. For example, incorporating metals such as burnished brass, warm copper or glistening silver and gold can add that look and feel of quality and luxury.

Lighting

Lighting is a secret weapon in hotel rooms too! Being a place to rest and rejuvenate, good lighting at any time of the day is key. To do this your lighting choices should be flexible for you to control, this goes for both artificial and natural light. Features such as dimmable lighting, blinds to defuse bright daylight or heavy curtains to create nighttime anytime. When you’re in control of the level of light at any time of the day you can always set the perfect environment for you.

Scents

Adding scents instantly adds a special feel to the room. By choosing a signature scent for your bedroom, you encourage feelings of joy and calm. If it’s a sleepy fragrance you’re drawn to, think about lavender and jasmine. To induce calm and ward off negativity look for scents with bergamot in them. If waking up is hard, an invigorating scent of lemon and orange will envelop your room in positive, uplifting energy.
