What factors can affect the price of fitted wardrobes?

Fitted wardrobe prices depend on the size of storage being built but they also have to take into account your own individual needs. It’s important that your storage is made to suit your own tastes and lifestyle because nobody knows your household better than you!

To create a final price, your designer will need to consider the following:

1. Scope of the project

Are you adding fitted storage to one room, two? Maybe you want to create a whole home multiroom transformation with all the bells and whistles.

While some projects may be as simple as adding elegant bookcases into alcoves, some can be complex layouts that span across interior spaces, necessitating a more extensive storage solution.

2. Size of the storage being made

There are lots of fitted storage options available to personalise your design, with everything from lowline cupboards, to shelving, all the way to fully fitted wardrobes.

The larger your storage, the more material is required, which will also affect the price of your quote.

3. Features of your storage

How your storage is configured can be a factor as well.

On the inside of your wardrobe, the amount of shelving, rails and drawers will influence the final pricing.

But so can the number of doors on the outside. For example, if you have high ceilings and want to maximise every millimetre of storage right to the top of the room, the cupboard doors from any additional top boxes will also affect your quote.

4. Optional extras

It’s the extra touches that can really personalise a room.

You have the option of making your space feel even more luxurious with features like added lighting, coordinating furniture or matching headboards.

5. Materials used

The quality of the materials being used in your project can have a huge impact on costing.

As the old saying goes ‘buy cheap, buy twice’ and some fitted furniture providers will try to save money by offering thinner, lower quality doors, panels and internals.

6. Level of bespoke design

In awkward spaces where a more specialised storage solution is needed, you’ll need a highly bespoke design that has to be precision cut to size.

Though this service comes at a higher outlay, you’ll find it’s well worth the investment to get that millimetre perfect fit and improve your storage.

What makes the Sharps design and quote process different?

Comparing Sharps with other fitted furniture providers is like comparing apples and oranges. The way we work is very different.

When we say we build bespoke fitted furniture, we mean it.

Many of the parts that go into a Sharps fitted wardrobe have to be hand-cut on site to make sure it fits like a dream. In fact, our furniture is so bespoke that any material that doesn’t get used in a project has to be recycled - we can’t reuse it in another property.

In contrast, other fitted furniture providers work to set sizes to create a wardrobe ‘shell’ or ‘box’ that fits into an alcove (this process is also known as a ‘carcass built’ system). They choose the ‘box’ size closest to your alcove, fix the wardrobe to the wall, then use filler panels to hide any gaps around the sides.

This lets them keep costs lower but doesn’t necessarily mean you get the most storage for your space.

What to look out for when getting a fitted furniture quote

To make sure you’re getting the most for your money and the very best solution for your space, here are some key things to keep in mind if you’re looking at multiple fitted furniture quotes:

Positive:

Storage

When you receive a design, make sure it maximises every millimetre of space.

Negative:

If your design uses fixed panels and fillers at the side, top or bottom, it’s most likely a carcass built system rather than made bespoke.

Positive:

Style

Ask your designer what options you can have on the inside of your storage and whether it can match the exterior.

Negative:

If the interior colour is only available in a limited palette and can’t match your exterior finish, chances are this is not tailor-made furniture.

Positive:

Space

Check that your design makes the most of any awkward spaces, especially around sloping ceilings, bay windows and alcoves.

Negative:

If you see large parts being blocked off with panels to hide any awkward corners rather than becoming valuable storage space, this indicates the use of a carcass built system that’s being ‘filled’ into your space.

Positive:

Service

Check that your guarantee applies to everything - including the furniture, lighting, handles and fit. Does it cover you for years to come?

Negative:

If the guarantee doesn’t cover everything, think twice about moving ahead.

What are the benefits of fitted wardrobes?

Lots of people ask “is the cost of fitted wardrobes really worth it?” and to this we would say just take a look at our customer stories. The increased quality of life from better storage can be immeasurable. It can completely transform the feel of a home, changing it from a cluttered nightmare to a beautifully organised haven.

We love creating our customers’ dream fitted furniture because it means their interiors are living up to their full potential. But that’s not the only reason to love fitted wardrobes…

Make the best use of your space

With made-to-measure storage, not even a scrap of space is wasted. Even in rooms with tricky features to work around, the beauty of fitted wardrobes is that they can reach from wall to wall and floor to ceiling, giving you the maximum amount of storage possible.

Completely bespoke to your home, style and interior

Your home is as individual as your personality and fitted wardrobes let you customise your storage to your heart’s content. Whether you’re in love with contemporary minimalism or adore the opulent detailing of traditional style, you can create a customised design made expressly for you.

Endless interior configurations

The customisation doesn’t end there - you can take it to the inside of your storage to make it extra bespoke. With custom fitted wardrobes, your storage can be tailored in whichever way you like to suit your collection. Ensure clothing is kept in pristine condition with a place for everything.

Designed to last

By their nature, fitted wardrobes are designed to last, remaining in situ for decades. Unlike flat-pack furniture, which can quickly deteriorate after being assembled then re-assembled multiple times, fitted furniture will continue to offer reliable storage for years to come. We’re so confident in the quality of our fitted wardrobes and furniture that we offer an industry-leading 15-year guarantee. This means you can buy from Sharps with total confidence, knowing that your furniture is built to stand the test of time.

Adds value to your home

Fitted wardrobes are so sought after that they can even make your home more attractive to potential buyers. The cost of fitted wardrobes is often heavily outweighed by the value added to your property because of the convenience and organisation they offer.

No awkward gaps to clean around

Perhaps the biggest bugbear of freestanding wardrobes is that they can often leave irritating gaps next to the wall where dust can gather. With wall-to-wall fitted storage, you have no gaps. It’s much easier to keep your room spotlessly tidy.

Fitted wardrobes vs freestanding wardrobes

Are fitted wardrobes always the best option, though? In most scenarios, customers do find that they’re more convenient and bring out the best qualities of their space because they provide the maximum amount of storage.

However, freestanding may be preferable if you’re not able to put in fitted storage or if you think you might need to move home sooner rather than later.

Fitted wardrobes are great for any bedroom but especially in smaller spaces and rooms that are an awkward shape because freestanding furniture may struggle to fit. Loft spaces and attic rooms will likely find this to be the case because of their sloping ceilings, so in these instances, fitted wardrobes will make the best option for effective storage.
