Configuration inspiration

When we think of bespoke fitted wardrobes, we tend to think about how they look on the outside, the big finished result. But the customisation doesn’t stop there. Being able to personalise your storage on the inside is one of the big selling points for made-to-measure furniture because you can tailor it around the type of clothes and items you want to store.

The amount of interior configurations your design can take are almost infinite. And if you need some ideas on what you could do with yours, stick around because we’ve got some fantastic styles at Sharps.

Slate Manhattan fitted wardrobes with dual hanging rails

1. Stack your railing

To give your tops and jumpers maximum hanging room, try a double hanging rail.

They’re fantastic if you want an alternative to drawers and make it super easy to find everything you need.

Plus, it can also be a more effective use of your wardrobe if you don’t have many longline clothes. Double up and save space with this smart interior wardrobe design.

2. Narrow shelving adds interest

Let’s say you’re playing around with the design of your wardrobe interior. You want some nice overhead storage but also want to bring your rails lower down so they’re easy to reach.

Now there’s a gap between those two types of storage, so how do you make it feel complete?

Narrow shelving is fantastic for bridging different parts of your wardrobe layout and makes sure none of your space goes to waste.

They’re brilliant for storing flat shoes and hats and can give your layout a bit more visual interest if symmetry isn’t your style.

3. Coordinate your drawers with your exterior

Style is all about beautiful coordination, darling! And good interior wardrobe design is no different. Coordinating your drawers with your exterior doors creates a consistent feel and reflects a sense of luxury that’s not just skin deep.

This is actually a point of personal pride for us at Sharps. Unlike some fitted wardrobe providers, we always colour coordinate our furniture interiors to give you the best possible finish. Because the last thing you want when you’ve invested in good storage is to feel a disconnect once you open it up and look inside.

4. Maximise space with corner wardrobes

There’s nothing more pleasing than seeing every millimetre of your space being used for storage and corner wardrobes do this with real panache.

Rather than being an awkward corner, they transform into deep storage that’s fantastic for just about anything, whether you’re looking to find a home for a large suitcase or some full-length dresses.

With the option of shelving or hanging rails, corner wardrobes are an absolute must for making sure you’re getting the most out of your storage interior.

5. Organise your accessories

Can we tempt you with this luxurious little addition?

Accessory drawers are such a sumptuous upgrade to any interior wardrobe design, especially when paired up with ambient lighting to make your earrings and bracelets shimmer.

Plus, they’re practical too. There’s no better way to keep all of your smaller bits and pieces neatly organised.

Make a display of your ties and watches or colour code your makeup collection. This beautiful storage will make you fall in love with your daily routine every single morning.

6. Make sure to add a mirror

Choosing your outfit for the day is just so much easier when you can check your style as you’re getting ready. That’s why wardrobe mirrors are essential. Adding them onto the inside of your wardrobe doors is one of the easiest ways to work mirrors into your interior wardrobe design, but if you want something more discreet, just remember that fold out models are also available.

And, of course, if you prefer to have mirrors on the outside of your wardrobe, there’s plenty of ways to do that as well. Take a look at our collection of mirrored wardrobes to see just how varied they can be!

7. Get glam with a glamour cabinet

Love to luxuriate in your routine? Then you won’t want to miss out on a gorgeous glamour cabinet like this.

Glamour cabinets combine a mirror, lighting and plenty of shelving to give you the ideal place to perfect your look.

A great option for walk-in wardrobes, they soon become an essential part of your daily life, offering a place to store your makeup and brushes to make getting ready a breeze.

8. Create a showcase with display shelving

One of the best things about creating your own bespoke wardrobe is that it makes your collection the star of the show.

And what better way to highlight all of your favourite pieces than with display shelving?

Brilliant for designer bags and shoes, display shelving lets your best accessories take pride of place in your interior wardrobe design, moreso if you add some dramatic lighting.

So the minute you open the doors, the sight takes your breath away.

9. Shoe cascades for the fashion addict

Whether you love a limited-edition trainer, ballet flats or killer heels, shoe cascades are the ultimate way to organise your collection.

Here, you can lovingly sort them however you like, keeping them neatly arranged while also enjoying them as a bold statement piece inside your wardrobe.

However you want to order them, by style or colour, a shoe cascade makes it easy to keep them tidy. The only hard part is deciding which pair will complete your outfit!

10. Go for a bold colour theme

We’ve mainly been looking at types of storage for your wardrobe interiors but for this point we’re purely looking at style.

And a bold colour scheme can definitely do wonders for your finished design. You could try a deep, rich colour like our Midnight Blue, or something fresh and rejuvenating like Willow Green

They’re worlds away from your standard neutral tones but they are still exceptionally versatile colours to style into a space. So get adventurous and take the plunge with something a little different.

11. Think about overhead storage

Taking your fitted wardrobe right up to the ceiling unlocks so much extra storage space, so if you need to make use of every millimetre, it’s well worth it.

It's hugely convenient for getting any big, bulky items out of the way, like suitcases and bedding, to make sure the rest of your wardrobe is freed up for clothes.

And if we could toot our own horn for just a moment, did you know that with our Sharps Space+ formula, we could give you up to 40% more space than with freestanding storage?

That’s the joy of going bespoke - you get storage that fits into your space like a glove.

12. Add a hidden TV unit

Ok, so we’ve covered quite a few ways to store your clothes, but what about your tech? That’s right - your wardrobe isn’t just a great place for a foldout mirror, it’s fantastic for a foldout TV too. Or you could even make a dedicated TV unit at the heart of your storage, revealing it once you open the doors.

For anyone short on space, or with their bed directly opposite their wardrobe, this is an amazing design idea to work into your design. And as an added bonus, it can also help to hide away your TV when you don’t want it on show, making sure it never detracts from your chilled-out bedroom vibes.
