Micro walk-in wardrobes to fall in love with

Bigger doesn’t always mean better! Some of the world’s most popular designs run towards the petite. AirPods, the Fiat 500 and the iconic mini skirt all say that small is beautiful - and the same is true for walk-in wardrobes.

If you don’t have space for a full-size walk-in wardrobe, this just means you have to get a little more creative. Small walk-in wardrobes are definitely possible - trust us, we’ve made plenty! - so don’t give up on your dream. Take a look through our small walk-in wardrobe ideas to spark your imagination and maximise your space

1. Make the best use of a bedroom wall

Sometimes all you need to create the perfect walk-in wardrobe closet is one good wall.

In this design for TV’s Gemma Gear, we helped her to create the feel of a full walk-in wardrobe space by adding floor-to ceiling storage in her bedroom.

With a complete wall to work with, you still get the powerful visual effect you’re looking for with open storage, plus plenty of customisable interior configurations to make yours unique.

And if you want to learn more about this absolutely superb project, make sure to read Gemma’s Customer Story here.

2. Convert an awkward nook or corner

Don’t be too hasty in writing off any tricky corners. You can actually do a lot with them if you invest in tailor-made storage. Despite being a loft space, we were able to give our customer, Rachel, a gorgeous little walk-in wardrobe that makes use of every free millimetre.

As well as providing shelving for shoes, we were able to fit in drawers, full length hanging and even a bit of overhead storage too.

This small walk-in wardrobe closet idea will not only provide convenient storage, it’ll also transform your awkward spaces into something that adds value and personality to your home.

3. Transform your box room

This small walk-in wardrobe idea delivers big. Why leave a box room for junk when it could become something special? With bespoke fitted furniture, you can unlock so much space with clever storage solutions, bringing it right into every corner so nothing goes to waste.

Speaking of corners, it’s hard to miss the fantastic curved rails in this design. The corner wardrobes reclaim the space to provide plenty of extra hanging storage for dresses, shirts and jackets. And how could we miss that chic glamour unit framed in the centre, providing an elegant home for makeup and accessories? The perfect combination of practicality and sophistication, all in a smaller interior.

4. Add in display shelving

If you have minimal space to work with, you can still highlight your best pieces with open-fronted display shelving. Drop this little number into your bedroom fitted furniture to create an instant showpiece, perfect for bags, shoes and accessories.

This creates the illusion of a walk-in wardrobe with open storage but will take up minimal space and add plenty of functional shelving to your overall design.

For maximum visual impact, colour coding your items works a treat, and for a bit of extra shimmer, try adding some pieces with metallic accents.

5. Alcoves don’t have to be bookshelves…

Alcove does not equal bookcase - let’s just get that out of the way. Yes, it’s a great go-to option, but if you really want that walk-in wardrobe style, you can put alcoves to much better use.

The great thing about bedroom alcoves is that they’re tall, so you can have virtually any type of fitted storage in there you want. Double hanging rails, full length, pigeonhole shelving or drawers…it’s all up to you.

It’s one of the more unusual small walk-in wardrobe ideas but can completely change how you experience your space.

6. Carve out a walk-in wardrobe in a corner

Short on space? Even a corner of your bedroom will do. You can make good use of smaller stretches of wall by working in a more slimline walk-in wardrobe.

So even if you don’t have much room to play around with, you can still make your clothing a stunning feature.

If you want to go one step further, you can even try zoning the space by adding an accent rug, a chair or a statement wall colour around your wardrobe to create the sensation that you’ve transitioned to a different interior.

7. Rethink how you see narrow spaces

As small walk-in wardrobe ideas go, this one really breathes life into narrow spaces. A long interior can be tricky to style but there are two main ways you can tackle it.

Either you can add a fitted wardrobe at the end of the space, allowing for deeper storage; or you can create more of a galley effect with storage running down one or both sides.

If you have enough room, you might even be able to squeeze in a piece of coordinating furniture, like a dressing table to make your mini walk-in wardrobe complete.

8. Use mirrors to create a sense of depth

Ok, we know we’re cheating a little bit here because this is a dressing room rather than a walk-in wardrobe, but it perfectly illustrates how mirrors can make a huge difference to a small space.

By reflecting more of your interior, mirrors create the feel of added depth, and can really help a walk-in wardrobe design feel much larger.

So, while you might not be adding sliding wardrobe doors to your design (or maybe we’ve now convinced you otherwise?), even a single mirror can make a small walk-in wardrobe feel bright and spacious.
