Minimising our impact on the world

Protecting the environment is important to us and we know it’s important to our customers too.

That’s why we’re committed to our goal of becoming net carbon neutral by 2030. There’s a lot that goes into a business and we examine everything we do to minimise our impact on the world around us.

Doing things better is what we’re all about at Sharps and here you can find out about the steps we’re taking to become even more sustainable.

Working with Forest Carbon

We’re proud to be partnered with Forest Carbon, an organisation that specialises in the conservation and restoration of woodland both in the UK and worldwide. Sharps is helping to capture and offset carbon emissions by supporting two of their important projects.

Selcoth Burn, Scotland

Capturing 230 tonnes of CO2 by restoring natural habitats.

Tree planting in Scotland

Supporting a project close to home, Sharps is helping to plant 1757 trees in Selcoth Burn, Scotland, to reforest 3.1 acres of former sheep grazing land. As the trees grow and mature, they will capture an estimated 230 tonnes of CO2 over their lifetime.

The site has been planted with a mix of broadleaf and pine species to connect the land to ancient native woodland and provide an expanded habitat for iconic Scottish wildlife, like black grouse, red squirrels and golden eagles.

Planting trees in the area will also provide a sustainable timber resource to improve farm diversification and rural development. The total size of the Selcoth Burn project is 50 hectares with approximately 106,000 trees planted overall.

Cordillera Azul National Park, Peru

Offsetting 2300 tonnes of CO2 by protecting tropical rainforests from illegal logging.

Protecting endangered forests in Peru

Cordillera Azul National Park

Sharps’ partnership with Forest Carbon is supporting the protection of precious tropical rainforests in Peru. By preserving the landscape and controlling illegal deforestation, we’re helping to offset approximately 2300 tonnes of CO2.

The Cordillera Azul National Park in Peru is often called the ‘jewel of the Peruvian Amazon’ with its blue lagoons, densely wooded areas and rich biodiversity. This conservation project aims to protect its extensive rainforest covering 1.6 million hectares, whilst also assisting local communities to develop sustainable agroforestry industries.

The project works to Verra VCS (Verified Carbon Standard) and CCBA (Climate, Community and Biodiversity Alliance) standards to ensure activities follow best practices and deliver positive outcomes.

Fitted furniture with care for our environment

We value the world we live in. That’s why we care about what we take in and what we give out. All our wood is responsibly sourced from forest to home and 98% of our factory waste is recycled.

We’re also proudly partnered with the British Heart Foundation to give old furniture a second life, helping to reduce waste going to landfill.
