Sophisticated storage made to impress

TV and radio broadcaster Zoe Hardman, best known for her weekend show on Heart FM, needed a dressing room fit for showcasing her elegant designer collection. Together with Sharps, she made her dream come to life.

Somewhere where she could take her time and enjoy choosing her outfits for the day, where every moment felt luxurious.

But the room she wanted to redesign wasn’t going to make things easy. With a chimney breast and two alcoves either side, she needed experts to help her create storage that would maximise every millimetre of space.

After speaking with her Sharps designer, she created a sumptuous set of fitted wardrobes that spanned across the chimney breast and alcoves, giving her plenty of room for all her favourite pieces. And to complete the look, a stunning display cabinet is now home to all her best shoes and bags.

Zoe's Design Expert Says:

“The biggest benefit of fitted wardrobes is that they can follow the contours of even tricky room layouts. And that’s exactly how Zoe achieved this superb look.

She paired our classic Shaker range with a fresh Stone finish to give it a timelessly elegant feel and our Charlotte handles add that extra dash of luxury. In-built lighting makes it easier than ever to find what she needs but also creates a sense of drama when opening the doors.

The full height open shelving for her shoes and bags is the finishing touch that creates a glamorous boutique feel perfect for dressing rooms.”

Q&A Zoe says:

How did you find Sharps?

I had such an amazing time designing my dream walk in wardrobe with the team at Sharps! They listened, understood & nothing was too much trouble or difficult to achieve.

Why did you choose Sharps?

It was a feeling of knowing I’d be in really safe hands. They’ve been at the top of their game for such a long time, I knew they would create something incredible for me and the quality would shine through.

Tell us about your design visit?

It was so exciting! I feel like it’s every little girls dream to have a walk in wardrobe…I had to stop myself letting out little squeals as we were discussing what I wanted! We walked around the space talking through what we could create; colours, style, layout, lighting, etc. Then the magic came to life on the computer after head designer Richard started pulling in the dimensions and design. Seeing it on the screen was magic!

What was the main issue that you were trying to solve with Sharps fitted furniture?

I do a lot of filming at home and I wanted to have a space that looked gorgeous but was also really easy to use. Maximising space was key as I’ve got a lot of clothes & I wanted to have my shoes on show, as I’ve basically spent all my earnings on them!!

Were there any awkward spaces in your room?

Yes in the corners of the room and Sharps basically built around them, so you’d never know as it’s all tucked away inside the wardrobes.

Tell us about your fitting experience?

Jo did the most wonderful job! He was kind, polite, thorough and a real joy to have around. His attention to detail was remarkable and I’m so thrilled with the result I can’t tell you. It’s my favourite room in the house!

How would you describe your interior style and how does your finished design reflect this?

Think of a Parisian apartment with high ceilings, fire places and big windows…this is me. Clean lines, bright light cascading in, sleek and simple. Neutral yet breath taking…

What do you love most about your Sharps furniture?

I love how it all has a place. Oh and when I open the doors, the lights come on!!

What is your favourite part of your fitted furniture?

The shoe and handbag shelves…

What are you most looking forward to making beautifully organised?

I like to organise by colour so everything looks like a rainbow. I’m actually really looking forward to bringing all my chunky knits & knee high boots down from the attic, just in time for winter!

Working around awkward features

Wardrobes fitted around a chimney breast

Zoe was working with a space that featured a chimney breast and two alcoves, so naturally only a bespoke solution would do. Her space also featured sculpted coving, so rather than taking her storage right up to the ceiling, she opted to keep it on show and retain its original character.

After discussing her needs with her designer, they created a set of tailor-made corner wardrobes that ran across these features, providing extra-deep corner storage that maximised every millimetre.

As well as providing optimised storage, the new wardrobes also help to conceal these room features and give the space a more uniform look corner to corner. A seamless fit that allows the space to reach its full potential.
